Two scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings; a few letters, 1898-1959; and the autobiography (20 p.) of Elsie G. Riddick, covering her life from 1894 to 1920, describing working conditions of women in Raleigh, N.C., ca. 1915; women in the local and state Democratic Party; the work of the Raleigh Suffrage League; and the National Business and Professional Women's Association. Other items include family portraits and pictures of the family home in Gates County; 144 picture postcards from Asheville and other places in North Carolina, various places in the United States, Europe, and China; and a young girl's autograph album, ca. 1853.

Elsie G. Riddick was born in Gates County, N.C., the daughter of Elbert and Cornelia (Speight) Riddick. She attended the North Carolina Normal and Industrial School at Greensboro, N.C., and after graduating in 1897 went to work for the Agricultural Commission in Raleigh. In 1899 she began work with the Corporations Commission, which in 1933 became the Public Utilities Commission.
